“At 14, my daughter had a sudden death in the middle of a history lesson.”

A woman with curly brown hair, wearing a green jacket and discreet necklace, is seated and smiling slightly. She appears to be engaged in conversation with another person, whose blurred background is visible in the foreground.

“My daughter Juliette had a sudden cardiac death at the age of 14 when she was at school. The educational assistant and the nurse performed a heart massage within 3 minutes: this vital gesture saved my daughter’s life.

When Juliette was in intensive care, my wife and I stroked her gently to show her we were there. We talked to her about our future plans. We are convinced that our words, this physical contact, our caresses and listening to her favorite music helped her to wake up.

She had no after-effects and waking up from her coma was like a second birth for us. It’s better than winning the lottery, because her life is priceless!” – Juliette’s dad

In 2012, Juliette was 14 when she suffered a sudden cardiac death in the middle of a history lesson. Thanks to the first aid actions of the nurse and her classmates, Juliette was saved. She is one of the 10% of people who survive sudden cardiac death.

A few months later, Juliette underwent an operation that targeted the heart cells responsible for her sudden cardiac death, enabling her to lead a normal life without risk of recurrence.

After that, she worked alongside the Liryc Institute to raise awareness of this disease and promote training in life-saving techniques.

Juliette now devotes her time to her patients, having become a healthcare professional herself.
